Greentech Capital Advisors Sells Minority Stake to California Hedge Fund

Palo Alto, Calif., -based Capricorn Investment Group has acquired a minority stake in Greentech Capital Advisors, which plans to use proceeds from the investment to finance its U.S. expansion.

Capricorn Investment was founded by former EBay President Jeffrey Skoll and according to Bloomberg News, counts former Vice President Al Gore as a client.

Green energy: from the communes to Wall Street

Can you say you’ve made it as an industry when you’re able to tap your very own “green” investment bank?  Who knows, but yesterday’s launch of Greentech Capital Advisors by a group of Wall Street veterans is yet another indication of how fast clean tech, once the passion of  communes and other off-the-grid communities, has grown in a very short time.

Launched by former UBS investment banker Jeffrey McDermott, Greentech Capital is a one stop shop investment bank for the clean energy industry, offering capital raising and financing services as well as mergers and acquisitions advisory.

Joining McDermott, who was formerly co-head of investment banking for UBS, is Timothy Vincent, a former infrastructure banker with Goldman Sachs, who will lead the firm’s project finance business. Read More »
