FPL Renewable Energy Sub. Acquires Three Wind Farms from Babcock & Brown

FPL Group’s clean energy unit NextEra Energy Resources has completed its $352 million acquisition of three operating wind farms located in Texas, Wisconsin and South Dakota from Babcock & Brown. The wind farm generate a combined 184.5 megawatts of electricity, 80 percent of the output is backed by long-term power purchase agreement.

First Solar Sells 21 MW Solar Energy Project to NRG Energy

First Solar has sold its 21-megawatt solar energy project now under construction in Blythe, Calif., 200 miles (321 kilometers) east of Los Angeles to NRG Energy.

Construction on Blythe, California’s largest utility-scale PV power plant, began in September and is expected to end at year-end. Once operational, the plant will sell its electricity output to Southern California Edison under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

Update: NRG Energy’s Bluewater Acquisition

NRG Energy and Bluewater Wind held a joint conference call yesterday in which Bluewater founder and President Peter Mandelstam and NRG’s Northeast Regional President Drew Murphy did not stray far from their talking points (they did not disclose the acquisition price of the all cash deal). However, the two did shed some light on NRG’s motivation in acquiring Bluewater’s development pipeline and on the different funding options NRG was considering to develop the Bluewater projects.

Credit Suisse, as we live-tweeted, advised Bluewater. According to Mandelstam the bank approached 87 potential bidders in Europe, Asia and the Middle East before fellow New Jersey company NRG placed the winning bid. Read More »
