First Solar Secures Environmental Permit For 230 MW Solar Ranch Project

NRG Energy’s 230 megawatts Solar Ranch thin-film photovoltaic project in Southern California has passed a key environmental regulatory hurdle, ensuring construction-start.

, Tempe, Ariz.-based First Solar, which will oversee construction of the facility for project-owner NRG Energy, said Solar Ranch’s Environmental Impact Report had become “non-appealable.”

NRG’s solar unit could invest up to $450 million of equity in Solar Ranch, which is backed by a 25-year power purchase agreements with Pacific Gas & Electric.

First Solar expects to complete construction at the end of 2013.
