DOE Announces $18M in Stimulus Grants for Small Cleantech Firms
The Department of Energy has just announced $18 million in stimulus funding for 107 small cleantech firms.
The 125 grants are for up to $150,000 each and come from ten topic areas, including advanced solar technologies, which got $2.8 million, building air conditioning, which received $2.2 million, and refrigeration and water usage in electric power production, which received $880,000, among others.
Energy Secretary Steven Chu said:
These investments will help ensure small businesses are able to compete in the clean energy economy, creating jobs and developing new technologies to help decrease carbon pollution and increase energy efficiency.
The companies were selected from a pool of 950 applicants, with an emphasis on near-term commercialization and job creation. Successful companies will be eligible for a second round of grants, worth $60 million, in the summer of 2010.
