Vulcan Power Company, a Bend, Ore., developer of geothermal energy projects, has raised $108 million in private equity funding from Denham Capital, an energy-focused investment firm. As we head into the second month of 2010, industry groups are releasing their overview of the past year. One worth highlighting was the year-end report for 2009 by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) that said that the U.S. wind industry grew by 39 percent last year, adding 9,922 megawatts of new capacity, which brought total U.S. wind generation capacity to over 35,000 megawatts.
