Helix Wind to Secure $1M Argentina Power Deal
Helix Wind, the San Diego-based developer of small wind generation units, is close to inking an agreement worth some $1 million with one of its distributors as part of a World Bank rural electrification program in Argentina.
Helix, which is cooperating with local partner EDAL RE, could supply up to 100 of its Helix Wind S594 vertical axis turbines. Each turbine retails for about $10,000.
So far no contract has been signed but Helix CEO Ian Gardner tells us “he’s pretty confident” about securing the sale. EDAL Re holds the commercial rights for the Helix turbines for South America.
The $9.5 million World Bank electrification project seeks to replace 2.3 megawatts of fossil thermal generation in northwest Argentina’s Jujuy province by deploying 15-killowatts power generation islands comprised of photovoltaic arrays and wind turbines. Helix would supply the wind generation portion of these renewable energy units.
EDAL RE is expected to start installing the power islands in February 2010. The project is part of the World Bank’s Renewable Energy in the Rural Market Project (PERMER), which seeks to deploy clean energy generation in rural communities across Argentina.
Separately, regarding Helix’s expected $15 million share issuance, Gardner tells us an 8K, formally announcing the share sale could be filed by the end of the year.
